NYC Medical Weight Loss
Medical weight management is more than a prescription. W8MD evaluates health history, medications, appetite, nutrition, sleep, goals, insurance and cost before recommending a plan.

Who may benefit?
Medical weight management may be considered for adults with obesity or overweight and related health risks, or for people who have repeatedly lost and regained weight despite serious efforts. Eligibility for any medication depends on the product indication, medical history and clinician judgment.
Your initial assessment
- Review weight trajectory, appetite, eating pattern, activity and prior treatments.
- Review diagnoses, prescriptions, supplements, allergies and relevant family history.
- Measure weight and vital signs and determine whether laboratory testing or records are needed.
- Screen for sleep apnea symptoms, metabolic risk and medication contraindications.
- Compare benefits, limitations, coverage, cost and patient preferences.
Treatment options
Options can include nutrition and activity intervention, semaglutide or tirzepatide pathways, brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound, and traditional medications such as phentermine, Qsymia, Contrave or orlistat when appropriate. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
Follow-up and maintenance
Follow-up assesses response, side effects, blood pressure, nutrition quality, protein intake, lean-mass preservation, plateaus and affordability. Maintenance planning begins early because obesity is commonly chronic and weight regain can occur after treatment ends.
